Welcome to the American Express Black Card:
You and I cannot apply for this card.
To receive an invite-only application, you must have used other AmEx cards for at least a year, and have charged around $250,000 or more to them every year. Mind you, this is just to be considered for an invite to apply.
If you get invited to apply, there will be a $5,000 initiation fee just to get your fancy black card, and a $2,500 annual fee just because.
You must keep up that $250k yearly balance to prove you are worthy, and the monthly balance must be paid in full every month, technically making it a charge card, not a “credit card.”
Now that I’m done bashing its costs, here are the renowned benefits:
  1. 1% cash back on purchases (1.5% for purchases over $5,000)
  2. 24/7 Concierge Service, which is rumored to be able to help you get into the most exclusive events and obtain the rarest products in any way possible.
  3. Automatic Hotel upgrade to Elite Status at the Hilton and IHG hotels.
  4. Automatic car insurance with any rental
  5. Complimentary upgrades on airlines
  6. Black Card Holders-only lounges at most major world airports
  7. Complimentary in-flight wi-fi access
  8. $200 travel credit annually
  9. Some international airports will assign a personal guide to speed up your immigration process
  10. Last but best of all: You can have up to 2 other people carry the card on you account!!
So, here you go, none of these in my opinion are worth the excessive fees and spending minimums unless you travel somewhere new every week.
