Simple idea that made someone rich

In 2005, a student named Alex Tew registered the MillionDollarHomePage.com[1]domain.
His idea was to sell one million pixels of a 1000 x 1000 pixel image at $1 each.
After launching on 26 August 2005, the website became a web phenomenon and Alex got media attention.

In 2006, the final 1,000 pixels were put up for auction on eBay. The auction closed 11 days later with a winning bid of $38,100.
According to Wikipedia, Alex Tew sold a total of $1,037,100 worth of pixels.
Why didn’t I think of that!?!
